Elder Web Discrimination
Patricia Zentara

In regards to Poor Web Site Design Denies Access to Vital Information

I can assure you that sites like Wal-Mart, QVC and HSN no longer work with a webtv. Though they have for years. This problem has been going on for three months.

I am an elderly woman who can no longer shop at these sites. I know I am not alone.

I do think that after three months of wrangling with QVC and getting silly answers, like..."Contact your ISP" or "you need a PC"..I am at the end of my rope.

QVC markets products for the disabled then does not allow them to do on-line shopping? Time you get the word out to many groups. Others have to get on QVC or nothing will be done.

I thought you might find this interesting...I have NO problem with QVC.UK.COM nor with QVC of Germany. But the very country I am a citizen of..

No...that country is too dense to develop web-accessible pages. I would have to buy Joan Rivers Products at the pound price. Then pay shipping and handling from the UK to California,

That is insane. There is no such thing as a webtv in Europe or any part of the world. Only the USA looks down their web-developers noses at platforms not up to their platform requirements.

The irony of this, is that, QVC's Customer Service staff will not have anyone from the IT department call me.

Maybe it is time for a lawsuit. How silly is that?

But an inaccessible site is elitist and discriminatory. They have ramps for wheelchairs. Time QVC wakes up to their disabled customers. Shame on QVC.

Editor Note: Amazed by the difficulty of filling out the QVC web email form. Why are they demanding to know this question, "Your Internet Service Provider (ISP)"? This is a very strange and unusual request.

Should QVC, WalMart and HSN be allowed to practice web discrimination?
Should thougtless progammers be clueless about the shopping needs of the elderly?
